SnoTap College Try Week 10

After a couple weeks of doing some different stuff with college football, we are back with College Football Try basically talking about different things that happened during Saturday's slate of games.

Florida State's big second half - It looked like we were going to have a ball game in Tallahassee at halftime. Seminoles held a seven point advantage at half against Miami and the Hurricanes forced Jameis Winston into two interceptions. The third quarter went badly for the Canes as they gave up a touchdown on Florida State's first drive and then Miami's quarterback Stephen Morris followed it up with an interception on the first play to P.J. Williams.  This would lead to another Florida State touchdown and before you know it, the Noles had a 21 point lead. The road is clear for Seminoles to go undefeated before the ACC Championship.

Miraculous play cools Pelini's hot seat - It looked like the Pelini family was set to have a real bad week. Former Florida Atlantic coach Carl Pelini had to resign after allegations of cocaine and marijuana use and his brother Bo looked in big trouble as Northwestern led 21-7 in the second quarter in Lincoln. Nebraska slowly crept back into this ball game and they were down three with under a minute remaining in the game. Cornhuskers struggled to get to the line and moved like molasses leading to Nebraska needing a Hail Mary to win this game. Ron Kellogg III connected with Jordan Westerkamp for a touchdown and a win.  Also Ron Kellogg III is the next Jared Lorenzen.... YES YES YES YES YES YES YES.

WTF Texas Tech - I cannot really explain what happened with Texas Tech on Saturday. They played well against Oklahoma, and their defense looked like Mike Leach's version of the Red Raiders against Oklahoma State. First, I did not think Oklahoma State was this good but they absolutely dominated Texas Tech throughout the whole game. Once again, a team beat Texas Tech on the ground as the Pokes had 288 yards of rushing led by Desmond Roland and quarterback Clint Chelf which resulted in five touchdowns. I have no idea what to think about both teams honestly.

Michigan State is really good - Do not kill me Badger fans, but Michigan State is the second-best team in the Big Ten. There is no doubt in my mind.  Michigan State's defense is absolutely relentless and I am convinced they would shut down Wisconsin's rushing offense (Honestly, I would rather see this than Ohio State but I digress). This defense is easily the best in the country and could compete with any team in the nation honestly. I do not know if they win against every team, but they at least keep it competitive. Even Michigan State's offense looks better and I do not really blame them for the drops given the God awful weather. Also gotta love these Michigan State bros. (H/T BuzzFeed Sports)

Todd Gurley returns for Georgia and gives them a chance for SEC East - The return of Todd Gurley should be the reaction people have when Kanye West's tour is back on from postponement. Georgia needed it so damn bad. Gurley is a complete game-changer and one of the best running backs in the nation. They have a legitimate chance at the SEC East crown with Missouri's remaining schedule. After they play Kentucky, they travel to Ole Miss and then play Texas A&M at home in consecutive weeks. They could easily lose both those games and Georgia holds the tiebreaker against South Carolina as they beat them in September. Georgia's road features a tough road game against Auburn next week that looms very large.

Notre Dame survives pesky Navy again - I am trying to think of an ample comparison for Navy. They are an above average team, but they can play with the big boys when they play a perfect game. The Midshipmen tend to do this against Notre Dame. This game ended up being one of the best of the day with both teams going back and forth. This game tells me two things... 1.) Notre Dame's defense becomes a sieve when Louis Nix is not there thus maybe they are not very good.  2.) Notre Dame is an above average team, but they could still make a BCS bowl if they somehow beat Stanford on the road in three weeks.

Thoughts on Nick Saban's 60 Minutes interview - I watched Nick Saban interview with 60 Minutes and I do not really have a changed opinion on him. I never have a problem with Saban. I respect the hell out of Saban and how successful he is as a football coach. I still really feel like he has a football first mentality which is not always a good thing. I did love how Saban told all of these kids how to shake hands. I think if I am one of those little pipsqueaks I do not know if there would be a scarier moment in my life.
