Lorde- "Royals"
The hardest part of writing these end of year lists is writing about the songs you've heard a hundred times and the artists you know all about. By now everyone knows Lorde is a 17 year old talent from New Zealand who loves everything about hip hop except the lifestyle it portrays. There was something about the way Lorde arrived on the scene that we haven't seen in a newcomer in a while. It took Adele and Taylor Swift a couple albums before they were ready to be "queen bee". As many have written already, no song sounds more like 2013 than "Royals".

Drake - "Hold On, We're Going Home"
This slow jam premiered at the end of the summer, as the days were growing shorter and the green was beginning to fade from the leaves and the song is just perfect for that time of year. Collectively we had grown tired of "Blurred Lines" and needed Drake to emotionally guide us into the cooler months.
