CFB Picks Week 9: Missing out on College GameDay.

Honestly, this is not the best slate of college football games this week. It gets better as we head to November because that's when things start getting weird. But bare with us for this week.

Get your beers and get your bros
12. UCLA at 3. Oregon 6:00 pm ESPN - This is a game I should be at. My buddy Seth and writer of SnoTap Medical goes to school and told a bunch of us that this would be the game to go to at Autzen. Now, he will be there hopefully getting drunk with Lee Corso before the game.

As for what's going on in the field of play, Oregon looks like a powerhouse this season. I am a little nervous at the amount of points they gave up to Washington State albeit against second and third stringers. On offense, Oregon is another story with Marcus Mariota being the best player in the nation. Mariota versus Anthony Barr should be a treat.  UCLA struggled mightily last week against Stanford. I have no idea whether UCLA is just not that good, or just Stanford is a bad matchup for them. I am going with the Bruins are just an above average team, not a great team. It takes the latter to beat Oregon on the road. Mariota should impress again. ORE 41-28

10. Texas Tech at 15. Oklahoma 2:30 pm FOX - Dare I say this could be a defense game? I might have went over the top with my shade on Texas Tech. They are the seventh best offense in the country led by Davis Webb, the young freshman. The Red Raiders also have the 30th best defense. Webb will be up for a tough task against Oklahoma's secondary which is one of the best in the country. Oklahoma is a good team without a quarterback. Blake Bell against Texas Tech's defense could be a real disaster. I will take the Red Raiders on the road in a tight ball game. TTU 23-21

21. South Carolina at 5. Missouri 6:00 pm ESPN2 - Dylan Thompson will start for South Carolina but Connor Shaw will be dressed so who knows what that might mean for South Carolina.  This team thought relies more on how Mike Davis performs versus anything else. He will be up for a challenge against a top 20 rush defense with Missouri. They have a mean front seven that gets after it against the rush and also they can get to the quarterback as they led the SEC in sacks. Thompson is much more of a statue than Shaw. I think the Tigers keep it rolling this week. MIZZOU 27-17

6. Stanford at 25. Oregon State 9:30 pm ESPN - Underrated fun matchup to keep an eye on late at night. Oregon State is one of the best offenses in the country. Sean Mannion is one of the least talked about quarterbacks yet he takes control of games regularly.  But the question is who have they played? Colorado, Washington State and California are not Stanford. The Cardinal is still having trouble putting together a solid offense yet their defense is there.  I like Mannion and Oregon State yet I feel they are sort of paper tigers here. Cardinal gets pass them in a close game for three quarters with enough offense and showing the best defense Oregon State has faced this year. STAN 30-21

Channel flip worthy
Penn State at 4. Ohio State 7:00 pm ABC - Good rivalry game that sometimes gets lost in the shuffle. I contend Ohio State is not as good as their BCS ranking. I do not know if a young Penn State team can go into Columbus, but they will give them a game. The biggest thing for Nittany Lions is stopping the big play. Both teams are top 20 defenses and if Braxton Miller breaks out a big run or pass, it could be curtains for Penn State. I like Ohio State in a pretty boring, run of the mill B1G game. OSU 17-9

Vanderbilt at 16. Texas A&M 11:21 am ESPN3 - Vanderbilt showed some nice fight last week in their win against Georgia.  Patton Robinette will start for the Commodores and going into Kyle Field for your first start could be a baptism by fire. Texas A&M needs to have a better performance by their defense and it is said that Johnny Manziel will play even with his bum shoulder. I think the Aggies win this one putting up another 40+ and a good performance by Manziel. TAMU 42-24

Tennessee at 1. Alabama 2:30 pm CBS - So why is this game being played on the final Saturday in October? I thought it was already the third week? Anyways, Tennessee is better than what was probably expected yet they will likely have all sorts of problems heading into Alabama. I am still not convinced the Tide are the best team in the nation based off the teams they have played thus far yet Bama is a much better team than the Vols. BAMA 35-10

9. Clemson at Maryland 2:30 pm ESPN - Man, this would have been such a great game if Maryland did not have both of their top receivers out for the year with injury. I worry about Clemson still thinking about their ass-kicking yet Maryland showed no life without their receivers. I like the Tigers take care of business. CLEM 30-17

Upset special
17. Fresno State at San Diego State 9:30 pm ESPN2 - This will be a complete shootout. Both teams are in the 80's when it comes to defense and both can put up points. San Diego State might be worse than I am giving them credit for here, but I like them in this one for some weird reason.  Maybe it is Quinn Kaehler play of late, but I like the Aztecs in a high-scoring upset. SDSU 41-38

19. Oklahoma State at Iowa State 11:00 am FSNWI - Sure, Iowa State is 1-5 but they have played a brutal schedule thus far this season especially in the Big 12. Also they got blown out by Baylor but what team doesn't these days.  Oklahoma State really has not shown any signs of being a Top 25 team. They are unsure at quarterback with either J.W. Walsh or Clint Chelf. I like Iowa State here and I don't care who knows it. ISU 24-20

A palate cleanser for your Netflix binge watch
25. Nebraska at Minnesota 11:00 am ESPN - This could be a sneaky upset to keep an eye on. For the second straight year, the Golden Gophers are playing much better football. This is probably their biggest home game in awhile. Ameer Abdullah is having a great year for the Cornhuskers and I think he will be able to have a big enough impact to beat Minnesota. NEB 28-16

Wake Forest at 7. Miami 11:00 am ESPNU - Miami did not look good at all last week against North Carolina yet I have to think they find a way to pull it together against Wake. MIAMI 42-17

Duke at 14. Virginia Tech 2:30 pm ESPNU - Virginia Tech really looks good this season and Logan Thomas is playing better than expected. Duke has five wins, but against no one. They will not be able to handle Virginia Tech's defense. VT 34-13

Sleep off your hangover
NC State at 2. Florida State 2:30 pm ABC/ESPN2 - FSU 52-10
8. Baylor at Kansas 6:00 pm ESPNU - BU 70-10
Florida Atlantic at 11. Auburn 6:30 pm ESPN3 - AUB 48-7
Furman at 13. LSU 6:00 pm ESPN3 - LSU 55-3
Eastern Michigan at 18. Northern Illinois 2:30 pm ESPN3  - NIU 42-6
20. Louisville at South Florida 11:00 am ESPN2 - UL 38-13
UConn at 23. UCF 11:00 am ESPN3 - UCF 45-14
