NFL Week 6 Liquor Cabinet
Top Shelf
Touchdown Tom shuts the haters up - I really did not know what to make of Tom Brady's two drives prior to the final one. Aaron Dobson should have caught the fourth and sixth ball yet at the same time, it seemed like Brady was off. New England's quarterback got another chance and it ended about as quick as Jim Levenstein did with Nadia. Brady threw a deep ball leading to an interception and what everyone thought would be blouses. Not so fast. Thanks to New Orleans going with the Michelle Bachman playbook, New England got another chance, Brady made the most of it.
The two-time MVP led the best drive of the year with Brady taking the team down the field with no timeouts including the game-winning pass with five seconds left to Kenbrell Thompkins. There are some flaws about New England, but this is the type of stuff that make you believe the Patriots can play with anybody.
Kansas City's mauling defense - Another week where Kansas City impresses on defense in a major way. The Chiefs defense looked like a group of bad ass men in their 24-7 win against Oakland. Kansas City had a defensive touchdown as well as 10 sacks. Granted it is the Raiders, but they are playing better this season. People might be amazed by this seeing as the team was 2-14 last season yet Kansas City had many defensive players in the Pro Bowl so this should not come as a surprise.
AFC West... Best division in football - Who would have thought this at the beginning of the year. Kansas City is unbeaten. Denver is unbeaten as well is a good start yet San Diego and Oakland are both good football teams. The Chargers really should be 4-2 given their brain dead finish against Houston, but they are 3-3 with wins against Philadelphia, Indianapolis and Dallas, all teams who are .500 or better. That's impressive. Oakland is not a bad football team, just not a good football team if that makes sense.
Pittsburgh bounces back - I have no idea what will happen with Pittsburgh's win on Sunday afternoon. They could still be a bad team meaning it will be like the scene in Major League when the Asian groundsmen tell each other 'They're still shitty.' Or this could be a team starting to make a fight back. The AFC North will take nine or 10 wins at best to win it. Pittsburgh is not completely out of it even at 1-4.
Suddenly, Philadelphia is .500 - It seems like there has been a gauntlet of emotions ran with Philadelphia. First, it was like OH MY GOD WHAT THIS SHINY NEW WAY TO PLAY FOOTBALL. Then it was like HAHAHA I TOLD YOU CHIP KELLY'S OFFENSE WOULD SUCK IN THE NFL, KELLY TO TEXAS!!!!!!! Now, it's WELL SHIT, I AM CONFUSED WITH UP AND DOWN, I WILL HANG UP AND LISTEN. Nick Foles should be starting at quarterback until further notice especially if he handles Dallas secondary, the second straight tough defense.
Dwayne Harris is the new Dante Hall and any other return specialist - Honestly, his punt return was a thing of beauty. Harris saw the seam and turned on the accelerators for the touchdown. He also took a kick return back 90 yards as well as made a nice special teams tackle. Harris will be the new 'You better be careful with this guy.'
Middle Shelf
GOOD JOB, GOOD EFFORT JAGS - So damn proud of Jacksonville's professional football team. They did not look like a team ready to go 0-16. Honestly, they might only win two games, but this team showed some fight. You can see why people are encouraged about the future of this franchise.
Underwhelming in Seattle - Yes, it is pretty cool Russell Wilson has never lost at home although there is that one game where we refuse to talk about it. Yes, the Seahwaks defense played well against Ryan Fitzpatrick which is like this old SportsCenter commercial... Kenny Mayne is the Hawks' D and the kids are Fitztragic. But they had a comedy of errors on Sunday. Maybe it is because it was against Tennessee, but I failed to come away with good things to say about Seattle.
Thad Lewis nearly beat Cincinnati, think about that - Do people still think Cincinnati could win a Super Bowl? I want to know so I can laugh directly in their face. Once again, the Bengals look like a slightly above-average team and that's it. Thad Lewis put up 24 points on their defense. Andy Dalton and company could not salt away a lead. They also needed a major punt return to propel their overtime win.
Arizona is your team who can beat weak teams but not good teams, will end up 8-8 - There are a good group of these teams every year. Arizona is one of them. They will not beat many good teams although every now and again, it will happen. But any bad team will get beat by the Cardinals. Arizona is a couple players away from being a good football team.
Bottom Shelf
Awkward times in Houston - It appears Houston has a fanbase full of pinheads. The Texans suffered their fourth straight loss, this time a brutal home loss to a lowly St. Louis team. Matt Schaub went down with what looked like a serious injury and fans cheered him off. That's pathetic. I understand Schaub is terrible this year, but that does not help things nor is it the right thing to do. This creates an obvious rift with the fans and players yet I have no idea how that affects either of them.
Brandon Weeden... NFL quarterback and lob enthusiast - This might be worst pass you will ever see. Weeden had a lead against Detroit yet did nothing to preserve it. (H/T Bleacher Report for the GIF)
Minnesota... Woof - They get a week off after a win in London to come home to Carolina only to get beat by 25 points by a team whose been pretty bad last week in Arizona. Cam Newton tore apart this secondary. Minnesota is not a good football team. Adding Josh Freeman will not equate a playoff appearance. They found themselves in the playoffs because of a weak schedule, a massive year from Adrian Peterson and everyone else in the league puking on their shoes.
Charlie.
