A-Game
Nick Perry - Fair to say, this was Perry's best game of his career. He played great for all four quarters and seemed to be everywhere. Perry notched himself two sacks on the day as well. There is a chance Perry becomes the man at outside linebacker if Clay Matthews is out and he will rise to occasion. Also if Perry develops into a monster, defenses will have to play the Packers on the outside straight up.... Scary.
Randall Cobb - Sunday showed off with Cobb is one of if not the most versatile player in the National Football League. The announcers did not do the usual alert that Cobb was in the backfield when he took a 67-yard run throwing me off when this smaller dude is flying down the sidelines. There were some bad play calling, but McCarthy nailed that one. Cobb running the football makes me a little nervous, but is it really that much different than being a receiver? Sure, he might take some more direct hits, but it is not like he's getting eight or nine carries a game.
A.J. Hawk - He deserves some major kudos for his play. Mike McCarthy mentioned Hawk's play in his post game press conference. I feel like Packer fans only realize A.J. when he does not play well. So here's me, giving him kudos for his great game. Hawk filled holes nicely making Reggie Bush pretty much nonexistent and held Brandon Pettigrew in check who probably was the biggest threat with Calvin Johnson being out for the game.
Mason Crosby - The Packers kicker took so much flak last season, and Green Bay keeps him in for another year to see what he can do after a good training camp. Crosby has went five for five to start the year off. Kickers are like PGA golfers where they can lose it for a year and come back strong the following year. Also I think not having to do kickoffs helps things out.
B-Game
Josh Sitton, Evan Dietrich-Smith, T.J. Lang - Detroit boasts two of the best defensive tackles in the league with Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley and SLEDS (New nickname alert) shut them down like Jon Taffer does to a bar mishandling raw chicken in the kitchen. Suh did not get heard from much in the game and Fairley ended up on a milk cart after the game. The offensive line kept Rodgers upright and had a great push rushing the football.
James Jones - He played the role of the home run hitter on Sunday. Jones would have had two touchdowns if not for poor foot placement on the catch. Jones ended up with four catches with 127 yards and a touchdown. On most teams, Jones would be the home run threat for the team and on this one, he is the second home run deep threat because Cobb takes the title from him. Jones is continuing to impress this season.
Eddie Lacy - I am glad for Lacy as he had his best game as a Packer going for 99 yards on 20 carries. He did not really have any long runs, but he did have an average of 4.3 a carry. Lacy keeps doing this for the Packers, Green Bay will be an even tougher team to stop than they already are right now. As we get into the season, I hope we see Lacy more in the fourth quarter to wear down the opposing team. My assumption is the Packers do not want to overuse Lacy early on.
Aaron Rodgers - Good game for Rodgers. He had 274 yards with a touchdown and did not have an interception. Rodgers only had 10 incompletions with a quarterback rating of 106. Rodgers did not look flashy but he made some really great throws. He dropped one in for James Jones and Rodgers had two great passes to Jordy Nelson on the sideline which should surprise no one.
Davon House - Basically, he took over the nickel corner and did a great job. Sure, Calvin Johnson was out with an injury yet House nearly had an interception multiple times. Hopefully next time Moose Johnston calls a Packer game, he will call him Davon, not David.
C-Game
McCarthy play calling theory - Yes I have a theory as to why Mike McCarthy is struggling with his play calls. The Green Bay head coach never had a running back like Eddie Lacy meaning he is having trouble deciding whether to pass or run the football. Lacy gives Mac more options and he overthinks himself with what to do on every play. I could easily be wrong about this, but I feel like once McCarthy gets comfortable with the running game, the Packers will be even better.
'Yeah but the defense did not have to deal with Calvin Johnson.' - People are not giving the defense any credit right now, but they have been much better this year. The national media is overblowing the typically poor Packers defense because it is not that this year. The middle of the field went away as Morgan Burnett came back from injury. Casey Hayward will be back soon and House will be a great nickel/dime corner for them as well.
D-Game
Not getting 100 yards for three straight games - Just a bummer. I would love to see the Packers keep a rushing streak alive, but that's okay. They are running the football like some beasts right now. It is truly a refreshing thing to see the Packers run the football with great force.
Slow starts - This cannot keep happening to the Packers. They will have a game where field goals come to bite you in the ass sooner rather than later. I do not know how to fix something like this except find the endzone quicker than the middle of the third quarter.
F-Game
Empty set on 3rd and 1 - I never want to see this again and I know when I do, the Packers will find a way to get a touchdown just to piss me off.
Clay Matthews' Thumb - I hope they can put a soft cast on it so Matthews can play and it will not require surgery. Matthews will have a club on his hand making him even more of a badass.
Dominic Raiola - He might be the biggest asshole in the NFL. Unbelievable.
Charlie.
