Green Bay, Wisconsin - A Place Where Answers are Needed

When you hit rock bottom in life or in sports, it takes awhile to reassess what actually happened to reach this
point. Green Bay hit rock bottom on Thursday morning in a Thanksgiving Day thrashing by Detroit as the Lions won 40-10 taking full control of the NFC North. Right now, people are searching for answers and wonders how they exactly got there. Worst thing happened to Green Bay in the past month, they were exposed for more than just not having Aaron Rodgers, but the fact of the matter remains when he returns, this team is not dead yet for a playoff appearance.

For the last couple of weeks, I have battled with the idea if it is personnel or coaching for why the defense struggled so much in the past couple of weeks. Many people would say it is defensive coordinator Dom Capers and want him to be fired. This is the easy answer. People believe if they get rid of him, all will be fixed. I blame Baltimore for this line of thinking. The Ravens fired their offensive coordinator in December last year, and they became Super Bowl champions with an inspired offense. If Capers gets the pink slip in the next 10 days, will defense become any better?

The answer is probably not, but we have seen how teams in college and professional sports have changed when coaches leave the team. But there are too many holes on this defense right now. The safeties are a disaster. Ted Thompson deserves all sorts of criticism for this as well. I am not one to give Thompson a hard time, but he entirely deserves the blame for this one. After Green Bay's first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, there were 10 safeties taken in the first four rounds of the NFL Draft. It was a ripe year for safeties and Thompson went with young players Jerron McMillian and MD Jennings instead of adding another safety. Now a rookie safety could have been just as bad (Remember Darren Sharper's first year?), but at least, the future would be brighter than the two safeties playing meaningful minutes for Green Bay.

Green Bay's defensive problems do not end there. All the sudden, their rushing defense is a nightmare. C.J. Wilson is apparently a bigger part to this team than any of us give him credit for in stopping the run. Wilson is a forgotten player because he does not do much in terms of the stat line, but he really makes an impact stopping the rush. B.J. Raji is once again having a disappointing year. Raji was a guy hailed as the next Vince Wilfork and looks more like Dan Wilkerson or any other nose tackles whom just take up space and nothing else. Ryan Pickett is headed for the end of the career, and the tunnel might be getting there quicker than he would want right now. DeMarco Murray, Le'Von Bell and Matt Forte all still loom on the schedule for Green Bay.

Aaron Rodgers will be back on December 8th. I realize he is not cleared yet, and no one at Lombardi Avenue wants to say he's playing, but Rodgers will give it a go. It feels like when Bane is running all through Gotham City and Batman, broken back and all, comes back to save the city. I have no idea who Bane is right now (His collarbone, Detroit, the rest of the NFC North, Matt Flynn/Scott Tolzien?), but you get the idea. Rodgers knows he is needed on this team and I believe he ends up willing himself to play even if he is not fully healthy.

In my humble opinion, Packers offensive line woes from yesterday are overblown for the most part. Only real issue is we finally get to see Marshall Newhouse fully exposed as I have been saying for the last month. If Evan Dietrich-Smith's injury is significant, Derek Sherod needs to play or Lane Taylor for that matter. Newhouse is shook and there is no coming back for him. Rodgers will get protected as they are not playing a defensive line like the Lions for the rest of the year, and the line has been fairly good all season just one bad game. I will say DeMarcus Ware is scary as all hell, but that's about it. Rodgers will be safe with their line as long as Newhouse stays on the pine.

The quarterback is also a history buff and he knows all too well about getting hot at the right time. I keep thinking about how pathetic the two New York Giants teams looked at certain points before getting hot to win the Super Bowl. Did they have to catch breaks to end up in the playoffs? Absolutely. But at the same time, NFL is a wacky sport where things get turned on its axis. Green Bay is not dead yet. Sure they are beat up, sure they are bruised, but there is still some fight in them. Maybe this is the glass half full vision, but there are too many variables right now to call the season over with a month left of football.

College Football Picks Week 14: Rivalry Week

I realize these are insanely late. I insanely apologize. If you read this on Thanksgiving to avoid your relatives, I hope it is a good one. I am thankful you read our site. It has not been a great month for us, but a change in policy I hope will change things a bit.  We will have a Packers recap on Friday as well as NFL picks. If Marquette does something stupid, we will talk about them as well.

Grab Your Beers and Friends
1. Alabama at 4. Auburn 2:30 pm CBS - This is being called the biggest Iron Bowl in history. I thought the 2010 version was, but whatever. This is a major matchup with Alabama heading to Jordan-Hare Stadium. I am trying to determine if Auburn can pull this game out. I really cannot pick against Bama, but here's how it happens... Auburn controls the clock with Nick Marshall, Tre Mason and others.  They get a turnover from A.J. McCarron or T.J. Yeldon and they do not make one of their own in the first half. That's how the game gets won for Auburn likely but I cannot see it happening. I want to pick it. I want to see chaos, but at the end of the day, McCarron will lead a spirited drive down the field late for a last-second win. BAMA 30-28

21. Texas A&M at 5. Missouri 6:45 pm ESPN - As I did with Oklahoma State, I have been down on Missouri. I picked them to lose to Ole Miss and their defense only gave up one touchdown and field goal. James Franklin looked fine in his first game back against the Rebels as well. Johnny Manziel played another awful game against LSU. In many people's opinions, Manziel dashed his Heisman hopes right there. But my question if he ends up stunting on one of the top defenses on the road in a night game, he goes right back to the front-runner, yes?  I cannot pick against Missouri. It seems like they have a vision and I am betting against another South Carolina game happening to the Tigers. MIZZOU 24-17

22. UCLA at 23. USC 7:00 pm ABC - This game could be called 'Ed Orgeron Bowl' if USC goes out and beats UCLA, I cannot think of a situation where Coach O is not the first or second option. People say it is not going to happen, but let's face facts here, he caps off an amazing season for this team. UCLA shit the bed in the first half against Arizona State and played tough for the second.  I like feel good stories and I like Coach O. I think USC does enough on offense with a great defense effort to win this football game.  USC 17-13

6. Clemson at 10. South Carolina 6:00 pm ESPN2 - I am probably ignorant, but I feel like this rivalry does not get the same amount of love as some others do. These two teams very much so dislike each others including the head coaches. South Carolina won the last four games in this rivalry by double-digits in each of them. I cannot ride with Clemson. I like the Tigers, but who have they really beaten this year? Sure, we have Georgia but that was when I still wore shorts on a regular basis. South Carolina is a good team and Mike Davis will lead this team to victory. SCAR 31-16

25. Norte Dame at 8. Stanford 6:00 pm FOX - I have to believe this is Notre Dame's first game on FOX, correct? It really does not matter, I am just wondering things like why I am still writing on Blackout Wednesday.  They notched a home win against BYU, but it is not saying much. They are without Louis Nix and I have to think Tyler Gaffney will have a huge game for the Cardinal on Saturday. Also Tommy Rees going up against Stanford's defense is just begging for a pick-six to happen plus the whole controversy from last year's game will probably fuel the Goofy Tree a bit. STAN 24-9

Channel Flip-Worthy
3. Ohio State at Michigan 11:00 am ABC - One of my favorite games of the year. It has been a part of my life even if I am not a fan of either team. It is more so about being a B1G fan and enjoying their greatest rivalry. Ohio State should roll in this one as the defense for Michigan has went by the wayside. Carlos Hyde will have a big day and Urban Meyer will get another undefeated regular season. OSU 38-14

Minnesota at 11. Michigan State 11:00 am Big Ten Network - All of the sudden, Michigan State looks like they have an offense. I know Badger fans will hate me, but they really belong in the conversation for the second BCS berth if they lose a close one to Ohio State. Phillip Nelson did not look good against Wisconsin last week and I cannot think he will look any better against Michigan State. MSU 28-6

Oregon State at 13. Oregon 6:00 pm FOX Sports 1 (Played on Friday) - Oregon State has not won The Civil War since 2007. I cannot fathom how bad Oregon was last week, but I have to think they are blowing out their rivals. Beavers have lost their last four games including giving up 69 points last week against Washington. Give me Oregon and give me the points. OREG 55-17

Arizona at 12. Arizona State 8:30 pm Pac-12 Network - Arizona State locked up the Pac-12 South spot meaning they play Stanford next week in the Bay Area. You think they might relax against their rivals, Arizona? Maybe, the Cats have looked good in the past couple weeks especially with their win against Oregon. I am trying to decide who lets down more Arizona and Arizona State... I am going with the Wildcats. Sun Devils pull it out. ASU 31-30

Penn State at 15. Wisconsin 2:30 pm ESPN - No preview this week given the weird week, but Wisconsin should not waltz into this game. I doubt that they will with the senior leaders like Chris Borland and James White playing in their last game at Camp Randall Stadium. Penn State is a decent team who could give the Badgers a game and actually score an offensive touchdown. These two tend to play close games, but I am still taking Wisconsin at home. UW 28-23

Upset Alert
24. Duke at North Carolina 11:00 am ESPN2 - NO! GOD NO!  I am so sorry for doing this one. I just said on a podcast cheering against Duke is like cheering against communism. I am not cheering against Duke. But let's face some facts here... North Carolina has won five straight games. Suddenly, this team figured it out and made themselves bowl eligible after starting 1-5 for the year plus losing their senior quarterback to a season-ending injury. Duke knows they need a win against their hated rival on the road at an 11 am start, and a hot Tar Heels team....Does not sound like the recipe to win. I'm so sorry. Also if this happens and Virginia Tech and Miami win, there is a six-way tie for first place so good times! UNC 35-27

16. Fresno State at San Jose State 2:30 pm CBS Sports Network (Played on Friday) - This might be a little risky, but my friends tell me a I am risk taker (Actually I am not, at all). But hear me out. Fresno State sees light at the end of the tunnel. They could get a BCS berth with an impressive win. San Jose State is not good defensively but they do have David Fales at quarterback, a first or second-round draft pick, next May. I am going with Fales and I have no idea why. SJSU 41-35

A palate cleanser for your Netflix Binge Watch
9. Baylor at TCU 2:30 pm ESPN2 - Baylor lost last week, and sometimes when you lose a game, you can lose another one (HOT TAKE). TCU is not a good team, they will not be playing in a bowl meaning this rivalry game will be their Super Bowl. I think it is a closer game than expected in the first half, and Baylor pulls away in the second half. BAY 48-21

2. Florida State at Florida 11:00 am ESPN - Oh poor Florida. If you do not feel bad for them, I really think you might be soulless. You might also be a Florida State fan as they are licking their chops seeing this matchup. Jameis Winston will go off in this one against a battered Gators team plus their offense is a complete wreck. FSU 45-6

Arkansas at 17. LSU 1:30 pm CBS (Played on Friday) - If I were a college football journalist, I would want to spend a week with Bret Bielema. The reason being is his team has not won since September, he does not have first first SEC win and the team he left, Wisconsin, is knocking on the door for a BCS berth for the fourth straight year. That has to at least make a man think about things.   They will get rolled by LSU. It seems like albeit it being too late, LSU has figured their defense out. LSU 42-10

South Florida at 19. UCF 7:00 pm ESPN (Played on Friday) - This is the 'Battle for I-4' and South Florida has won all four games in the rivalry. Now, Bulls are down this year and if Golden Knights win this game, they get a BCS berth for the first time in school history. I think it happens Friday and Central Florida rolls in this one. UCF 30-7

Sleep off your hangover
Honestly, there are no games like this because all of these games are rivalries and you never know what can happen in these affairs. Enjoy the last full weekend of college football.

Tap's Turkey Day Picks

NFL
Green Bay (5-5-1) at Detroit (6-5) (-6) 11:30 am FOX - If you missed it, the preview from this game went on the site earlier today.

Oakland (4-7) at Dallas (6-5) (-10) 3:30 pm CBS - Some might see this as a boring game and it might be honestly yet I feel like these teams work well together. Oakland is coming off a tough home loss to Tennessee where they gave up a fourth quarter comeback to Ryan Fitzpatrick. I feel like Oakland is three or four breaks away from six wins. Dallas needs to keep their focus after being their division rival which featured more theatrics than expected.  Many people have been critical of Dallas not running the football, but this is a game where they can go pass happy. Oakland is one of the worst in the league and Tony Romo could have a big day against Oakland's secondary which currently ranks 25th. I think Dallas gets a cheap touchdown late for the cover. DAL 31-17

Pittsburgh (5-6) at Baltimore (5-6) (-3) 7:30 pm NBC - One of the biggest football rivalries in the last five years. This rivalry was always known for the big hits and given today's culture, people would like to forget that's how we thought about this rivalry.  Pittsburgh comes in hot. They have won the last three games, and it appears like this team has turned the corner a bit. The jury is still out on Baltimore. They won at home against New York last week and hold a 4-1 record at home this season. Although Ravens wins are not really that stellar beating Cleveland, New York, Houston Miami and Cincinnati, their best win. I like Pittsburgh to find a way to win this one and complete the sweep for the first time since 2008. PITT 20-16

College Football
Texas Tech at Texas 6:30 pm FOX Sports 1 - This game had a great deal of hype about a month ago. Since then, Texas Tech has careened off a cliff in the last couple weeks reverting to the old Red Raiders teams giving up a lot of points on defense. Texas suffered a blowout at home against Oklahoma State, and both teams do not have a chance at the Big 12 Championship.  I feel like Texas Tech is due for a win. I realize that's a cliche way to pick a team, but I feel like Davis Webb leads the charge in a close victory. TTU 38-34

Ole Miss at Mississippi State 6:30 pm ESPN - Ah the Egg Bowl. I do not know if Dan Mullen is on the hot seat, but he might need a win at home against their hated rival. Bulldogs also need this win to become bowl eligible. Ole Miss would like nothing more than put the nail in Mullen's coffin plus they would make Mississippi State miss out on a bowl game for the first time since 2009. I think Bo Wallace and the high-powered offense will bounce back after their tough loss to Missouri and get their first win in Stark Vegas since 2003. OLE MISS 27-14

SnoTap Packers Preview: Green Bay v. Detroit

For the last couple years, Detroit Lions have been Green Bay's biggest rival. Yes, Chicago and Minnesota have both played Green Bay in the playoffs, but Detroit is a true rival. My definition of a rival is a team that a team generally hates from the owner or chairman down to the last practice squad player. If you do not believe me, look at what Josh Sitton yesterday about this Lions team. Rivalries are best seen in college athletics, but sometimes, professional sports rivalries can be really great.  Green Bay and Detroit take their rivalry to Thanksgiving Day for the second time in three years, and both teams are looking for control of the NFC North.

Mike McCarthy has started the week by playing mid games with Jim Schwartz, a man I think McCarthy generally would not enjoy having a few beers with but I am not Mac.  He did not really rule Aaron Rodgers out of Thursday's game plus he said the team is looking at all quarterback options continue to screw with Schwartz's head. Hell, we even saw Rodgers practice on Tuesday morning. Rodgers has yet to cleared to play in tomorrow's game, and if it happened sometime before 11:30 am CST tomorrow, it would be a Yeezus blessing on Thanksgiving. We are going to assume Matt Flynn will be the starter on Thursday morning playing a battered Detroit secondary.

For years and years, the narrative about Detroit is they have a powerful front seven with no one in their defensive backfield. For awhile it looked like the Lions had absolved those problems, but in recent weeks, their old troubles are coming back to haunt them again. Ben Roethlisberger threw for over 350 yards in a comeback win two weeks again. Mike Glennon had an efficient day throwing for 247 yards on only 14 pass completions including an 85 yard touchdown pass. Andy Dalton had his highest output of the year when he threw for 372 yards against this team. Kyle Meinke of MLive points out Detroit has allowed opposing quarterbacks' highest quarterback rating in three of their last five games. They have lost all of those games.

In steps Flynn against the 30th-ranked passing defense and a team who basically ensure he got a fat paycheck in the last two years. Flynn torched a different version of these Lions at Lambeau Field two years ago. There is really nothing that makes you think it will be the same this time around.  Yes, we have pointed out all of the inefficiencies about this Lions team, but Flynn still needs to make the passes when he is given the opportunity. What is interesting to note in the article posted above is it seems like Detroit is giving away a lot on film and it could be exposed again this week.

Sam Shields will be back from a groin injury and life does not start easy as he faces Calvin Johnson. In my opinion, I think Sticky could have went last week if the Packers-Lions were playing on Sunday this week. Johnson should figure to have a huge game in this one. Green Bay's weakest spot on their team, safety, will have to play their best game of the year. This is like asking your always drunk relative if he or she can pull it together for one family function. Johnson can easily exploit the middle all day long against Packers defense making him a nightmare. There is no real solution to shut down Johnson, just pray Green Bay can do enough to keep him quiet.

While Johnson is a major concern, Green Bay needs to force turnovers, something they have not done all season. In their last four games, Detroit has 13 turnovers including Matthew Stafford throwing four interceptions last week against Tampa Bay. They have been careless with the ball as Reggie Bush and others are having difficulties holding on to the ball. Further, the Lions had miscues in special teams where Green Bay has been inconsistent this year.  This reminds me a bit of the New York game two weeks ago when we had a similar discussion about the need for turnovers against a team whose doing it often. If Green Bay can get an early turnover, it will be do wonders for this ball club.

Call me a homer as I have picked with this team through thick and thin. It hurts to see Green Bay not win in the last month, but based off Sitton's comments, it tells me they are hungrier than ever for a win especially against Detroit. They know if they win this football game, it could springboard Green Bay in the NFC North with Rodgers possibly coming back against Atlanta. Detroit needs to strike early and often if they want to win this football game. If Green Bay gets up early, Schwartz will go into a panic mode. I think this is a nail-biter and a high-scoring affair that the Packers pull out in a Thanksgiving Day classic.
Green Bay 34 Detroit 31

Bucks Buzz: November 27 "Winning Takes Balls"

The Bucks Buzz is a bi-weekly SnoTap post featuring Charlie Tritschler and Mitch Pratt. Charlie writes the Monday post while Mitch handles Thursday. This could change, but they both bring a unique style to the post.

Quick Recap:

Monday at Detroit: The Bucks and their eight game losing streak traveled to Detroit to take on faux NBA star and former Buck Brandon Jennings and the Pistons. This game was, once again, over just about immediately. If there was one game I've actually wanted the Bucks to win this year, it was this one but nope.

The Pistons had seven guys in double figures (including all five starters) and is it any surprise that Jennings had one of his better games of the year against his former team? This is basically the thing that drove Milwaukee fans nuts watching BJ3 (BJ7 doesn't sound right). He can turn it on and play very well when he wants to. He can also become a distributor when he wants to and that's when he's most effective, in my opinion.

Detroit looked really good in my opinion. Jennings and C Andre Drummond have some good chemistry going with their lob game. That's about the extent of Drummond's range but who cares? Call me Sherlock but Josh Smith is still terrible at threes (0-4 Monday night) but continues to take a ton of them (five attempts from beyond the arc per game this season).

Also, there were a few Bucks that were facing their former Detroit squad in this one, Brandon Knight and Khris Middleton. Knight, once again, wasn't much of a factor as he continues to work his way back from an injured hammy. Middleton had 14 points and 5 boards in 21 minutes, another solid performance from Middleton who looks like he could be a great role player after we get our star in the 2014 draft, but I digress.

Appropriate YouTube video: Brandon Jennings scoring 55 points against Golden State in 2009.

I watched this game with some friends and we thought we had a star after this performance. Problem is, he never did anything special after this game in his four years in Milwaukee.
This is what the billboard could look like.

Links

That "Save Our Bucks" website I linked out last week has now evolved into an IndieGoGo funding project to help raise money for a billboard to put somewhere in Milwaukee to alert Bucks management that the fans will have the organization's back if the team goes into a quick rebuild. The clock's ticking on this team faster than you think.

They are basically begging the team to not make any rash, short-sighted moves this year as they are well on their way to getting a high pick in the vaunted 2014 NBA Draft.

The Bucks are notorious around here for making dumb, short-sighted moves to get into the back end of the playoffs and get destroyed in the first round. I think the Tobias for JJ Redick trade was the last straw for a lot of fans. Milwaukee/Wisconsin sports fans are too smart and Herb Kohl is not fooling anyone with these moves.

Charlie sees this an "embarrassment" and while I guess you could make the argument that it is, the die hard Bucks fans are desperate to get this team a star in the only way possible for our small market "cold" city: the draft. Losing this season, especially after this dreadful 2-11 start, is what's best for the future of this team and we need to make sure it's in Milwaukee for good. We need to get back to relevance in order to have a chance at a new arena. THE 2014 NBA DRAFT is a great place to start. End tangent.

Appropriate YouTube video: Lloyd begging Harry to go to Aspen in 1994's Dumb and Dumber

This is comparable to what we are about to see with Bucks fans to Bucks' management. Hopefully, the end result is Bucks' management saying: "OK fans, tanking it is."

What to watch

Head coach Larry Drew said there would be changes after Saturday's embarrassing loss to the Charlotte Bobcats and he started Khris Middleton and Brandon Knight and everything else was the same. It'll be interesting to see if he plays the young guys even more after another embarrassing loss against Detroit on Monday.

What's next for the Bucks?

The Bucks will host Washington tonight at the BMO Harris Bradley Center and they'll have their new court ready to go finally. The Wizards will be without Bradley Beal for this one but John Wall has been playing very well the past handful of games. Over the weekend, the Bucks will play in Charlotte against those same Bobcats Friday night and then they'll host Boston on Saturday. Two pretty winnable games on paper but the Bucks have been terrible and we can't expect them to beat anyone at this point.

DOY: Victor Oladipo

Victor Oladipo welcome to the DOY group. It has been a slow start to the DOY season, but Oladipo submits his nomination for the DOY club. Last year, I said it takes three DOY's to be a regular at the DOY bar. Sometimes a guy slides into the club just for one night like Carlos Delfino. Oladipo makes this one impressive by crossing over Jeff Teague to start with it and then he dunks right over Paul Milsap and Al Hortford. I feel like Milsap challenges a lot of dunks and it ends up pretty bad for him. Orlando blew out Atlanta on the road last night by 17 points with 18 points from Oladipo.

NBA Roundball Wrap-up: Wednesday November 27th

Your favorite inconsistent NBA post is back from last year!  I never really had a full grasp on how to do this blog, but I think I have figured it out. There will be similar elements from Bucks Buzz, but in reality, it will be its own post on Wednesday (Or Thursday). I do not really have a time for when it will be up but there will be all sorts of random shit I happen to come across on the Internet plus some thoughts about the week that was.

Players of the Week
John Wall - Ah so this is why people were hyping up Washington before the season started because John Wall can be an All-Star this year. He played great last night against Los Angeles Lakers with 31 points and nine assists. This is Wall's third straight game of 30 plus points. Wall is also doing it very efficiently with his field goal percentage over 55 percent in each of these games including a stunning 71 percent against Toronto in a losing effort on Friday night. Wall will have a chance at another 30 point game against Milwaukee tonight.

Blake Griffin - What a stretch Blake is having right now. He must be reading SnoTap seeing people are behind him, and he is playing like a complete man. Griffin currently has a streak of eight straight double-doubles. The last time Griffin did not grab 10 boards was November 9th against Houston. The rebounds are encouraging to see from Blake after last year where he only averaged eight per game after two straight years with a double-double average. I would not say this is any indication Griffin is taking his game to another level yet it is still promising to see him do more on the court..

'I am not mad, I am disappointed' Player of the Week
Anthony Bennett - This is probably unfair because he played well in garbage time against San Antonio on Saturday, but so far, it has been a disaster for the first overall pick in the draft. Bennett is averaging two points a game. TWO. ONE BASKET. He is not playing in games. I have no idea what Mike Brown is doing with him. Even if he is not playing well, they should just throw into the wolves and see what happens with him. Sure, he will have some turnovers, but Bennett deserves a chance to play a little more. .

Team of the Week
San Antonio Spurs - Does anyone realize this team is 13-1 to start the season? ANYONE?!?! There is no talk about San Antonio's hot start. I do not care if they are a boring team; 13 of their first 14 games being wins is pretty special. They have won their last three games by more than 15 points, and putting up points in the process. They have scored over 100 points in nine games this season.  They are also do it on the defense end holding opponents to only 90 points a game. Their eleven game winning streak will be on the line tonight as they head to Oklahoma City.

Team of the Weak
New York Knicks - Oh no. It is not good in the Concrete Jungle. We wondered a couple weeks ago whether Tyson Chandler's injury will affect New York and it clearly has in a major way. New York has dropped six straight and it does not get any easier for New York playing Los Angeles Clippers and Denver in the next two games. Carmelo Anthony is averaging a double-double for the season doing as much as he can, but it is not enough. Looking at Melo, he might have one of the quietest strong starts to the season. Head coach Mike Woodson had to come out yesterday and say he did not lose the locker room. That's not good.

SnoTap Medical Injury Report
Bradley Beal to miss two weeks -  Last year, Bradley Beal missed the end of the season with a stress injury that cost him some time. He has a similar injury at a different spot of his leg, and he is deciding not to play through it. Beal's comments make it seem like he could if he wants to, but they are just going to wait on it. Hopefully, Beal is only out for two weeks and not any more time. With how Wall is playing right now, Wizards could make a push here in a weak Eastern Conference.

This Week in GIFs, Vines, Instagrams, Videos, Links, Pictures and anything else
- Let's start with the picture leading the program. Ricky Rubio showed up for Selena Gomez's concert last week looking like a complete scrub. I know Rubio does not need my advice, but clean it up dude. Rubio looks like he is lounging around on a Saturday afternoon.

-Dwyane Wade photobombs LeBron James by doing cartwheels in the background. I think we make too big of a deal of these things, but whatever.

- Shaq takes a tumble... I would say Shaquille O'Neal has gotten a bit better this season on television, and he runs suicides during a halftime break leading to a tumble. (H/T @cjzero)

-Rudy Gay is banning stat sheets in the locker room because that will help you from creating a brick house when he's on the basketball court.

Trading Places
Our first NBA trade of the season featured Derrick Williams, a former number two overall pick, getting dealt from Minnesota Timberwolves to Sacremento Kings for Luc Richard Mbah Moute. Williams is probably now considered a bust even if he is only 22 years old. He will definitely get his shot in Sac-Town. The Prince will help out Minnesota's defense and give them a bit on offense.

Tap's Trailers: Gimme Shelter

We talk all the time about professional athletes making the 'leap' but actors and actresses do the same thing all the time. Vanessa Hudgens looks like she makes the leap in this move judging off the trailer. She has never really done anything to this magnitude, but it seems like her most respectable acting move in her career.  Hudgens plays a troubled teenager/young adult dealing with a drug addicted mother and a non-existent father living a lavish life pretty much having an awful life. To make matters worse, Hudgens' character ends up pregnant with no real place to live. She moves into a shelter and it immediately improves her life.  It also stars Rosario Dawson, Brendan Fraser and James Earl Jones.

First Taste: The Worst (Remix) - Jhene Aiko (feat. Jaden Smith)

The last couple of weeks I have been posting Jhene Aiko's new music. I am a fan of hers, I like what she brings to the table. She brings a relax feel to female R&B when many times it is about the big beats or the great voices. Aiko brings much different feel, and it is more real life stuff she speaking about. This is her song 'The Worst' getting the remix treatment with Jaden Smith having a verse on here. Yes, Will Smith's kid, the same one whom talked about getting rid of Alabama and why education does not matter. The young fella is not bad, you want to hate him, but he does not suck as much as expected.

Closing Time: Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift & Prince William Walk into a Bar...

Every day on Twitter you can find something new and today's new thing was Jon Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift and Prince William performing 'Livin' on a Prayer.'  I have no idea where this from or why this happened but here we are needing a breakdown. Swift keeps her crown of the being the most awkward dancer of all-time. I really should not throw stones as I am an awkward dancer but I am 6'4 and husky, it is not my fault. She also tries to steal the stage and has no idea how the chorus. After it got extremely trendy to hate T-Swift, I have lessen my own hate especially since I enjoyed a couple tunes off her newest album. Prince William nails it. Dude just loves himself some Bon Jovi. He also is the leader in the clubhouse in 'Embracing a bald spot.'  Bon Jovi is just happy to be there and likely is pretty drunk. Cannot wait for my own rendition at Club Tap.  Good night Tappers (H/T @JimmyTraina)

NFL Liquor Cabinet Week 12

For the entire NFL season, we will be breaking down the rest of the NFL not named Green Bay by looking at it like a liquor cabinet. Why did we choose this method? I like to booze and it makes things really easy to determine what's great, average and poor.

TOP SHELF
Brady and Manning play another classic - Every time these two guys deliver a great game. This one was
more about Tom Brady than Peyton Manning. I mean imagine the narrative if New England loses this game by more than 20 points. People raise questions about Brady and how good he really is at this point of his career. But instead as it got colder in Foxboro, Brady started to mount a comeback with the Patriots getting 31 unanswered points. Manning had more struggles in the cold weather and it is starting to become a legitimate concern. Sure, he helped get Denver seven more points to force overtime, but Manning had his worst performance of the season. Peyton needs to find a magical elixir for cold weather games because they are going to keep coming at him especially in Denver with two more home games plus a road trip to Kansas City this week. I feel like this game more so than anything else tells me how close both them really are to each other.

Pittsburgh is back in this dance - Steelers flat-out dominated their rival, Cleveland Bowns, on Sunday and they now have five wins on the season. All the sudden, my Super Bowl pick is not looking that bad. Ben Roethlisberger had another big day, and their defense looked strong albeit against Brandon Weeden. Looking at the Steelers schedule, they have two games you can figure are wins playing at home against Miami and Cleveland. They play Baltimore and Green Bay on the road plus Cincinnati at home. If Pittsburgh goes 2-1 against those teams, Steelers might be one of the more dangerous teams in the playoffs. I am dead serious about those comments too. Big Ben is not some slum when it comes to late-season performances.

Carolina finds a way to avoid the letdown - We all saw it coming. Carolina got off to a slow start and we thought the letdown was happening. They trailed the whole game yet Cam Newton led this team back to victory for their seventh straight win. Weird to say, but this makes me more incline to think of them as Super Bowl contenders. Super Bowl teams do not lose to Miami at home coming off a big home win against New England where everyone is crowing you as the next great team. Funny enough, Carolina will now have to avoid the look-ahead when they play Tampa Bay this week before their Sunday Night game against New Orleans in two weeks.

Arizona is suddenly lethal - Okay, I will say it. Arizona is a better team than San Francisco. Yup there it is and I do not care who knows it. They have a better overall defense, a better passing quarterback and a better core of receivers. Now, San Francisco gets back Michael Crabtree, but still Arizona looks like one of the NFC's strongest teams.  They have three road games left in Philadelphia, Tennessee and Seattle, all three are very tough places to play with home games against division rivals, St. Louis and San Francisco. With Arizona playing all three division opponents, they can truly create their own luck and get themselves a playoff spot.

MIDDLE SHELF
No late game Dallas woes, progress! - I have to give Cowboys some credit for their win on Sunday. They had an early lead, and New York crept back into this game tying the score in the fourth quarter. Dallas got the ball back with nearly five minutes left and the combination of Tony Romo and DeMarco Murray held the ball for the full time with Dan Bailey netting the win. This is a big moment for Dallas. They could have collapsed or crumbled and it did not happen.

I wish I could figure out San Diego - In all honesty, no team is more confusing than San Diego. Phillip Rivers one week looks like a god and the next week he looks like 2012 Phil. They could make the playoffs. They could crash and burn. I have no idea how to pick this team. I think I am just going to keep picking against them and hope it works for me.

Somehow Tennessee is in the playoff mix - With their win against Oakland, Tennessee is currently sixth in the playoff hunt at 5-6 with Ryan Fitzpatrick leading the charge. He will be there the rest of the year so can he hold on?  Their game against Indianapolis this week is massive, and they might be catching Colts at the right time. Although they might have one of the tough three-game stretch with Indianapolis, Denver on the road and Arizona before finishing with Jacksonville and Houston. They need to at least win one in that three-game stretch but two wins would be ideal.

Jacksonville playing themselves out of number one - I honestly think Jacksonville is the third-worst team in the NFL. Atlanta is worse than this team. Houston already proved they are worse than this team. Washington might be right there with Jacksonville. People love to shit on this team, but they are not the worst.

BOTTOM SHELF
Hali and Houston means too much for Kansas City - When Tamba Hali and Justin Houston went out with injury, Kansas City became an average defense. Phillip Rivers went off including a last-second drive to put 41 points on this team. If they do not have these two players, Kansas City becomes way different team and a slightly above average team. If these are long-term injuries, the Chiefs might have to hold on in the final month of the year.

Panic at the Oil Drum? - Indianapolis suffered a blowout in the desert with Andrew Luck going a meager 20/39 and a running attack led by Boom Herron who had 33 yards on four carries with Trent Richardson rushing 15 yards for seven carries with one carry being for eight yards. This offense looks sub-standard without Reggie Wayne, and it is leading to an exposed defense. Good news for Indianapolis is they still have Jacksonville and Houston on their schedule. Bad news they still play Cincinnati and Kansas City on the road.
Chicago's rush defense is a dumpster fire - Bears currently hold the worst rushing defense in the National Football League with all of their players out giving up 145 yards a game. Michael Tainer of SportsOnEarth pointed out how it has been even worse than their average in their last five years except for one game where they gave up exactly their average at 145. In the last five games, Bears have gave up almost 1,000 yards and teams are averaging 197 a game. Next up for them, Adrian Peterson. Ruh roh.

A defense for Geno Smith - Oh boy, this is going to seem tough. Smith has been awful in the past three weeks and with New York still in the playoff hunt, the Jets are in complete flux. People are piling on Smith because he is not out there looking like Andrew Luck and turning the ball over at a rapid rate. The turnovers are a problem, but he has zero receivers out there. If New York can get a Sammy Watkins next year, this improves their offense in a major way.

Detroit fails to seize the moment - Lions could be well ahead in the NFC North. They could have been one of the top teams in the NFC with people talking about them as Super Bowl contender. Instead, they lose to Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay at home.  Detroit turned the ball over four times, had a punt block and their secondary looks awful again. Tough three game stretch with Green Bay at home, Philadelphia on the road and Baltimore on Monday night.

The Sad State of Derrick Rose's Future

And then Derrick Rose got hurt. In a week where a number of notable NBA All-Stars went down it was Rose’s injury that hurt the NBA community most. Players came out of the woodwork on Twitter to support the league's youngest MVP, and now the reality faces us all once again; Derrick Rose will not be playing basketball anymore this season.

This happening is borderline incomprehensible. It raised many eyebrows when Rose decided to not even consider coming back and play at all last year, choosing to instead look to the future and make sure he was feeling absolutely 100% mentality and physically. Now the wait makes it look like a terrible joke.

If you remember when Rose injured his ACL, it was during the lockout season, and Rose battled a sprain all season to his left ankle. It is my opinion that when he hurt the knee it was because he had been compensating for the lack of support in his ankle with his knee. Eventually that stress failed him leading to his injury against Philadelphi. He plays too hard to put that kind of stress on a body part. Even though it was devastating that it happened, it was understandable.

But now with it being the other knee popping seemingly out of nowhere, where does that leave us fans when evaluating Rose as a player? Following his MVP season, when everyone and their mother fell in love with the athleticism and the will to win that Rose played with in Chicago, it was a consensus opinion that Rose was the crème of the crop in terms of NBA point guards. He could score on anyone, an excellent passer, and his physical gifts at the position were unmatched (Except for Russ Westbrook, right?).

When debating top point guards in 2011, Derrick Rose held the throne with Chris Paul and Tony Parker finishing with silver and bronze medals. Those were your top options. Rajon Rondo and Deron Williams were in the second-tier with Russ Westbrook on the rise at that point.  But no one could touch Rose as he became the NBA's golden boy. With being the youngest MVP ever and the growing hate of LeBron James due to him leaving Cleveland, it was a perfect storm for Rose. We looked past his “ok” shooting and the fact he only played in 39 games in the lockout shortened season, he had the top spot, no questions asked.

He sat out all of last year, and now he is going to miss 72+ games this year. So who are we looking at? Is Derrick Rose about to become Grant Hill? If you are not familiar, Grant Hill burst on to the NBA scene. He won Rookie of the Year in 1994 and his first six years produced some silly NBA numbers:

Year

RPG
APG
PER:

I mean, pardon my French, but those are fucking spectacular numbers. It is no question why people were calling him the next Michael Jordan, and most ofpeople my age don’t remember Grant Hill for what he was on his way to becoming, but rather what he was after the year 2000, which is a somber time for the Duke product.

Grant Hill was a step below Michael Jordan in 1998, but clearly better than all the other two-guards in the league. A step above Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady, the next crop of NBA stars. But then he played through pain in the playoffs for Detroit and everything unraveled for Hill. He signed with Orlando (This is the part most people remember), played in only 47 games in 4 years, sat out an entire season (2003-04) and nearly died during his surgery. All that thanks to a very problematic left ankle. Things had obviously went drastically south for Hill.

While he bounced back to some extent with Phoenix, he never fully regained his pre-ankle-injury ways. When he retired this past season, it should have been a much bigger ordeal, but injuries derailed what could have been. He never regained his seat atop the two-guard list. And I think we all know where this is going.
Since Rose won his MVP at the age of 22[1] in 2010-’11, a year that he held averages of 25 points, seven assists and four rebounds per game and almost took Chicago to the NBA Finals, he has played in 49 out of the possible 230 games not including playoffs. An absolutely gut-wrenching number. And the thing is, we do not know what is going through Derrick Rose’s mind.

I remember reading once that Rose used to cry after losses in AAU basketball. Now some can look at that and think, “Wow, that is a guy that really cares about winning”. Others will look at that and think “What a softie, this guy needs to get on with it and CBT[2]”. After his first knee injury, it became apparent the fear of facing another knee injury had crept into Derrick’s mind. Nervous was not a strong enough word to describe Rose’s state of mind. So he waited and we waited, until he became “ready”. He returned and has been trying real hard to be Derrick Rose again, and it has been tough. Before the injury, he struggled shooting, and it is not as “easy” as it was before. While his three-point-shooting stood pat (34%),  the effectiveness around the rim is not the same. Only generating 3.2 free throws per game and he had not finished a game shooting over 50%. And now he will not. He seemed so urgent in his play, almost as if he forgot that he would  have rust. He had not played an NBA game in over a year.

So now when we are listing top point guards, the list goes CP3 and Parker, Kyrie Irving and Russ. Then probably Rondo when he comes back? And if you are a stat head, Kemba Walker gets thrown into the mix and then because I do not know if I want to trust Rose’s knees anymore I might even take Damian Lillard or John Wall.  Do you see what's happening? Just like Hill, it is hard to trust a guy that goes around missing 200 games in four years. People have come back and played with bad meniscus before. Dwyane Wade and Paul have done it for years. Westbrook will be doing it, and all those players carry a certain confidence with their games. A confidence in their physical abilities. You cannot hold them back. I guarantee you right now if Russ hurt his meniscus in November of last year, we would have seen him by the end of March. This is not the case with Rose. He is not very sure his knees can handle it. These other players can sense it, and I figure that is why there is such gratuitous support. That is why the league is so down.

We all fell in love with Derrick Rose because he was so authentic in the way he cared about basketball. The game does mean everything to him and it is not fair that it is being ripped away from him for the second time in three years. As fans, we are second on the list in terms of devastated souls. He feels cheated. He was cheated, and that is why we feel so down for him too.

Back in 2008 my uncle started taking me to a few Milwaukee Bucks games year. Usually we would see marquee superstars. In 2008, we saw Chris Paul. I remember my uncle telling me that LeBron was probably going to win the next 8 MVP’s but if anyone was going to “steal” an MVP from ‘Bron is was CP3. That night he went out and threw out a very casual 30/9/6 in a Hornets victory. We were wrong though because Rose would steal that MVP. And now, we cannot even trust if he will ever be the same.

We were all robbed of a slice of greatness pie when Hill’s left ankle broke in 2000. He never came back the same. From 2009-2011 we watched a superstar, bud, bloom, and blossom[3] in three short years. Derrick Rose was next. Derrick Rose was the truth. End of conversation. Now, we will not know what Derrick Rose really is. And we all will be holding our breath every time he jumps from now on.

But as fans we always have short memories, and let's hope that D-Rose can find himself again.

~Andrew

Packers Fans: Take a Deep Breath.

It is safe to say the 2013 Green Bay Packers regular season is not turning out how many fans hoped/expected it would. My main message for Packers fans is that as a fan base, we have been very fortunate with numerous winning seasons. Many seasons end with “disappointing” playoff losses, which sting, but in my opinion, as a football fan, all you can truly expect is a playoff berth most seasons, with an opportunity to make a run to a Super Bowl every once in a while. Injuries and parity make it impossible to expect a dynasty now.

Each team with a true franchise QB (Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, etc.) will experience a down season due to injuries, performance or other reasons. As a whole, Packers have experienced great success, as Aaron Rodgers is 57-29 career as a starting quarterback and the only losing season was 2008, Rodgers’ first year as a starter. Patience is needed when a franchise goes through a tough season like this, especially when the future is still quite bright for the team. 2013 is not over yet, and Packers could still be that team that gets hot late, but their future is still incredibly bright. To help people calm down about this season, we will look at what the future holds for this team.

Quarterback
There is still the biggest advantage Green Bay has over other teams. Rodgers will come back and be one of the best players in the NFL on a yearly basis. Despite the Packers ability to replace one legend with another (Favre to Rodgers) the quarterback position is one of the most difficult positions to replace. Many fans were upset about the lack of a recognizable backup quarterback, but there are an extremely limited number of people on the planet that can play the position at a professional level. Fans were upset about the options, but there are organizations that went into the season starting players like Blaine Gabbert, Brandon Weeden, and Christian Ponder, when all of their players were healthy. Seneca Wallace will likely not be back, but if the Packers can convince Scott Tolzien or Matt Flynn to continue to grow in Green Bay, they should be set with a backup for the next few years, but it will require a new contract.

Running Back
A position that used to be a huge weakness on the team is now considered a position of strength. With a stable of Eddie Lacy, James Starks (Could potentially find a new team), Johnathan Franklin, and a returning DuJuan Harris, many would expect the Packers to stand pat. But I would like to see one more guy brought in to provide another challenge in training camp.  Keeping players on their toes in camp seems to make for better performances in the regular season, and this position has a lot of injuries across the league therefore one more body would not be terrible.

Wide Receiver
Next year will be an interesting transition year at this long-time position of strength for the team.  One of the biggest bright spots this season has been Jarrett Boykin and he has earned himself a bigger role for the beginning of next season. James Jones, Jordy Nelson, and Randall Cobb all have contract issues coming up in the next few years, and the team will have some very tough decisions to make. Judging by the Packers’ history, it is likely one of them will not be back. Nelson seems to be the most irreplaceable, but will demand a high salary, and has been injury prone in the past. Cobb is a dynamic player, but has had injury concerns of his own, and his style of play puts him at a big risk with a slight frame.  James Jones has long been under-appreciated, but still seems the most replaceable of the group.  Many fans would like to see all of the players return, much like many other veteran players in the past.

My desire to see each come back will depend on the salary they would require in the coming years, but my gut says Nelson and Cobb are almost sure bets to stay with the team long term, and Jones’ status will depend on his contract request. The team should consider using a second to fourth round pick on the position this upcoming draft to get one more young, developing player on the field.

Tight End
This position was going to be in flux before Jermichael Finley suffered one of the scariest injuries I have ever seen live. Many reports seem to suggest Finley will not be back in a Packers’ uniform and logic points that way as well. It will be a long road back for Finley, one I hope is successful if he wants it to be, but the Packers’ reaction to one of my personal favorites, Nick Collins, suggest they will put well-being over football needs. I would like the team to move forward with Brandon Bostick for his potential, Ryan Taylor as a special teams ace, and one or two new guys for blocking/receiving. What was once an expensive position for the team will represent some cap relief.  (Ed. Note – Texas Tech’s Jace Amaro or North Carolina’s Eric Ebron would be excellent first round draft picks if Green Bay went with tight end - CT)

Offensive Line
This is the easiest position to analyze. Move Bryan Bulaga back to right tackle, and the starting lineup looks like this. David Bakthiari-LT, Josh Sitton-LG, Evan Dietrich-Smith-C (Will need a new contract), T.J. Lang-RG, Bulaga-RT. Derek Sherrod can serve as the backup swing tackle, with Don Barclay focusing on the guard positions, and JC Tretter can be the backup at guard and center. The team can bring in the usual training camp signees to battle for positions, and potentially find some gems to challenge the backup

Defensive Line
A position that was constantly a thorn in the Packers’ side finally settled this year, but will have a lot of turnover next year.  Let’s start with the guys who have contracts, and will be back next year: Mike Daniels, Datone Jones and Josh Boyd.  B.J Raji, C.J. Wilson, Ryan Pickett and Johnny Jolly will all need new contracts next year, and it is likely many will move on.

Wilson seems the most likely to head elsewhere, as his snap count has gone way down since previous seasons. Pickett has had a stellar second half of a career in Green Bay, but is getting fairly old and may not like the contract offer he will receive from Green Bay. Johnny Jolly is one of the best feel-good stories in the NFL this year, and one of my personal favorites, but he might not return to Green Bay next year. Jolly lost numerous years of income while out of the league, and few would blame him for accepting the largest contract he could get. I hope that Jolly is wearing #97 in the Green and Gold next year, but he might want to move on.

The stickiest of all the contract issues is going to be Raji, and it feels like we are getting close to Greg Jennings territory. Raji is going to want a huge deal, and deserves one because he is a stellar defensive lineman, but the front office might decide that he will take up too much of the salary cap on the team. Regardless of which players return, I think the team will spend some draft picks, and low level free agent money on this position.

Linebacker
Clay Matthews will be manning one of the outside spots next year, and it is safe to assume Nick Perry will be part of a rotation on the other side. Brad Jones is likely to man one of the inside spots due to a recent contract extension, and it is safe to assume AJ Hawk earned the right to finish his career in Green Bay. Jamari Lattimore does not have a 2014 team option with Green Bay, nor does Mike Neal. I expect Lattimore to return, and the Packers will need to find one more inside linebacker.  Neal has shown flashes of brilliance, but injuries have long been an issue. If Neal does not return, expect someone to be brought in to compete with Perry.

Cornerback
If the team is confident that Sam Shields’ performance this year is a prediction of the future, and not a product of contract year motivation, he should be the number one priority in the offseason. He should be the team’s number one corner moving forward.  I would like to see Davon House get some time to develop and man the other outside spot, with Micah Hyde and Casey Hayward combining to work the slot. Tramon Williams is expendable due to his high contract, and slipping play, if he is willing to take a pay cut, I would be interested to see if he has the center field skills to slide to safety. I expect to see a fourth or fifth-round pick used on a corner to continue the development at the position.

Safety
Morgan Burnett is a keeper, and anyone else is at risk for the next year. If anyone shows some improvement, they will be brought for training camp, but this position could use some work. I have mentioned above that Williams could be an interesting safety prospect to fill a void for a few years. Of all the positions on the team, I would most like to see the team use a first-round pick on a safety that can truly make a difference. The weakness of this position comes not only in the mistakes that are made on the back end of passing plays, but the lack of a physical presence over the middle.

Special Teams
Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay, and Brett Goode should all be brought back for their jobs next year. As returners, Hyde and Franklin will be there next season, I doubt Cobb takes back kicks or punts anymore. It will be as it usually is with returners around the league, a crapshoot.

While Green Bay has not won a game in a month, the future is still quite bright for this team. The last month and possibly another one might decide the future of a couple of these players, but this will be a team that keeps recycling through talent.  It should be an interesting rest of the year.

Marquette's Loss Brings Confidence

Going into Marquette's affair with Arizona State, I had little to none expectations about the game. It is like watching a movie like Hot Tub Time Machine. The bar is set really low meaning any little thing might make you smile or become happy becomes a bright spot and maybe at the end of the game or movie, it turns out things went much better than expected. Marquette lost to Arizona State 79-77, but there were many encouraging things about this team even in defeat along with a few things still needing to be addressed in the short-term.

It appeared to be the same old story for Marquette in this young season during the first half. Marquette gave up many open looks, and they struggled to score again. Arizona State went up by as much as 15 points making it seem like the Golden Eagles could get boatraced in the desert. They found their way back into the game cutting the lead to only 10 points thanks in large part to Jahii Carson on the bench with two fouls.  Marquette looked like an entirely different team in the second half led by Jake Thomas, Derrick Wilson and Davante Gardner.  Two unlikely contributors with one standard.

Thomas drew the ire of almost all Marquette fans including yours truly. The only people defending Thomas might have been his own family at this point. FOX Sports 1 color commentator Bill Raftery made a mention early in the second half, 'Thomas has the stroke, he just needs the confidence.' Thomas must have found Jobu on the bench because he started becoming the rainmaker everyone wanted him to be going into the season. Thomas made five 3-pointers, and he finished with his Marquette high of 18 points. I do not care Thomas shot 12 threes in the process. If he starts becoming a lethal 3-point shooter, this is a dangerous Marquette team.

Speaking of dangerous, Derrick Wilson figured out a move on offense that he can use to his advantage... the floater. Wilson might have always had this in his arsenal, but he finally used it to his advantage as well as taking in to the lane for the first time in his entire career. That is not a hyperbolic statement either with Wilson. This was Wilson's first game in his Marquette career where he had double-digits in points having 14 tonight. Additionally, he had seven assists and zero turnovers. This might be the pinnacle of Wilson's offense, but if he can contributed six to eight points a game with the same amount of assists plus limiting the turnovers, Marquette will be golden.

After a fast start against Southern, Gardner scuffled his feet in the next three games like the rest of the team. Gardner had 18 points with 12 rebounds notching his first double-double of the season. The rebounds are more important stat to me. In the first four games,  Gardner had 18 rebounds averaging just over four a game. Gardner's rebounding numbers are forever inconsistent and one day, the hope is numbers will start trending towards what he did on Monday night. He also made a three and stupidly took a three so there's that.

This blog post might make you think Marquette won so there still is some deserved criticism.  Jamil Wilson deserves some of it. While he did have a season-high in points, the shot selection for Wilson was not the greatest. He is currently shooting 31 percent for the season, and some that comes from his lack of 3-point shooting. Out of his 32 shots all season, 12 of them have been 3-point attempts meaning 37 percent of his shots have been from deep. For Jamil, that is too much. He needs to find the elbow jumper that he would make nine out of ten times last season. Wilson also needs to be more careful with his defense and his aggressive nature. His fourth foul happened on a loose ball in the middle of the second half, and if Wilson avoids that one, it could have been a different story.

Last year, Marquette faced many late game situations with Vander Blue finding the ball and having the big moment. Blue is not there anymore meaning they need a go-to guy late in the game. Currently, Marquette does not have that, and they did not have one until February last season. I do not mind Wilson taking the floater late. It is better than him launching a three or freaking out with the ball late in the game.  Yes, he got blocked but that somehow is still promising he tried it out instead of shitting the bed.

While this post might make me look like a soccer mom or dad whatever way you perceive me, it is nice to see this Marquette come together a little bit. Hopefully, this will carryover to their Thanksgiving Day game against Cal-State Fullerton.

Tap's Trailers: Divergent

You know what I feel bad for Divergent.  Because there will be simpletons that compare this movie to The Hunger Games without question. Both come from a book. Both have a strong young female lead, this one, the talented Shailene Woodley who will be getting bigger roles in the near future. Both have an action plot featuring a separation of society. I am willing to bet there are many differences and the movie should stand alone. It looks to make a good chunk of change in the box office as it does have a book following.  I think it looks good enough to see in theaters.

First Taste: Sweatpants - Childish Gambino

Whew. I thought Childish Gambino was headed to a depressing hip-hop album where he attempted to steal the emo rapper throne from Kid Cudi yet I am wrong for at least this song. This is the latest to leak out from Because The Internet which drops in two weeks. This is definitely for the old-school Gambino fans where he raps about ridiculous things along with a ridiculous beat to go along with it. As I am starting to see this album together, I think it could be something special if Gambino decides to mix in both the emo stuff with heavy-hitters. Time to have a big day, Tappers.

Closing Time: Bound 3 (Vague) - James Franco & Seth Rogen

This went viral today. Seth Rogen and James Franco, best friends and a modern day Cheech and Chong if you will, decided to film a video of them remaking Kanye West's Bound 2 video. They remade it frame for frame with Franco playing Kanye West while Rogen played Kim Kardashian. Now given Rogen's stature you would assume he would play Kanye's role, but instead he went the Kim direction. As everyone else, I think it is absolutely hilarious. The best part is we will get to see if Kanye does a diss song mentioning this video because you know that's happening.

Bucks Buzz: Monday November 25th

The Bucks Buzz is a bi-weekly SnoTap post featuring Charlie Tritschler and Mitch Pratt. Charlie writes the Monday post while Mitch handles Thursday. This could change, but they both bring a unique style to the post.

Hot Recap Take
Friday: Philadelphia 115 Milwaukee 107 (OT) -  This one is a tough one to swallow for Bucks fans. First of all, the game was not on television meaning you had to listen to it on the radio or find it illegally yet the Bucks maintained a lead late in the game. Caron Butler dominated this one with 38 points, a season-high and his first 30 point game since November 2012 when he had 33 against New Orleans. Butler found his stroke from outside going 4/8 from 3-point range. Butler still played a hand in Milwaukee losing a 10 point lead with 130 seconds left in the game. Caron misses a 3-point shot right after James Anderson had hit a three of his own. Butler also had a traveling violation late. Luke Rindour did not help things missing a key late free-throw and a long mid-ranger jumper.

This led to Spencer Hawes leading the comeback with an outrageous shot. Hawes tied up the game and sent to overtime. Milwaukee could not score in the overtime period leading to a Sixers win. This is one that will piss you off because Hawes should not beat you. Evan Turner or Michael Carter-Williams, yeah I think people can make peace with it but HAWES?! That's a tough pill to swallow.

Saturday: Charlotte 96 Milwaukee 72 - Oh dear God where to start with this one. I mean Charlotte is a much improved team than last year, but there is no reason to get beat by 24 points at home to them. Yes, this was their third game in four days, but there should be no excuses for such a lame effort. If they lose another close one, sure I can be okay with that, but holy shit, Milwaukee. They put together a pathetic 12 point third quarter as the Bobcats put up 28 starting the blowout train. To give you an idea of how much an ass kicking this one was all of Charlotte's starters had PERs in the 20's. Further, Milwaukee had four of five starters with PER with -20's. It was that damn bad. The thing that might make it more disappointing is the fact they had nearly 15,000 in attendance. I feel like that's a good number for Milwaukee on a Saturday night against a team like Charlotte and they just basically came out to half-court and took a massive shit.  Thanks, Bucks!

Keep in mind
Besides Miami and Indiana, the East is wide open - I realize people are starting to talk tank with Milwaukee and I do not blame anyone one bit for that, yet Eastern Conference is a shitshow right now. Brooklyn and New York are horrible. Chicago will be without Derrick Rose, and many people are thinking they might move half their team. Basically, Milwaukee could continue to scuffle their feet and then be right back into the mix come January with an equally strong December. I am all about the tank life, but I feel like we should recognize how poor the Eastern Conference truly is at this juncture.

Speaking of the tanks, the great Tom Ziller of SB Nation, wrote an article today the Bucks inadvertently tanking. It is getting down right weird with the last-second loss to Philadelphia and then the colossal blowout to Charlotte.

Andrew Weiland of BizTimes wrote about the state of Milwaukee in terms of getting a new arena and every thing in the near future. It looks quite bleak and that's not good for the Bucks.

What to Watch
Hello old friend - Brandon Jennings plays Milwaukee for the first time tonight at Auburn Hills. I am sure of two things... 1.) Jennings will have at least 25 points. 2.) Zaza will make a hard foul attempt leading to Jennings getting pissed off at him.

What's Next for Milwaukee
As just noted, Milwaukee's professional basketball team heads to Detroit Rock City tonight. They head home to play Washington on Wednesday night. Wizards have won three of their last four games and play Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night before heading to Milwaukee on Wednesday.
