NFL Picks Week 9: A Soggy Sunday Slate

Once again, six teams are on bye this week meaning the Sunday schedule is not what it used to be. Sorry this is a little late again. I had work this morning and ended up being there a little longer than expected. College Football picks are coming as well before the day is over. Enjoy the picks.

Kansas City (8-0) (-3.5) at Buffalo (3-5) 12:00 pm CBS - I think I have told people the last two weeks to gamble on Kansas City only to see them not cover the spread. My gambling credibility is at a zero after Cincinnati's inexpiable loss to Miami on Thursday night. Yet I am going to tell you again to bet Kansas City again. Matt Flynn is starting for Buffalo, and he really has not shown much since leaving Green Bay. Kansas City's defense could have a field day. I like the Chiefs to stay undefeated, but it will be an ugly affair.
KC 16-10

Minnesota (1-6) at Dallas (4-4) (-10.5) 12:00 pm FOX - Christian Ponder will start again for Minnesota. He did not look good on Sunday evening against Green Bay. Dallas' secondary needs some redemption after their struggles against Matthew Stafford last week. Tony Romo should carve up the secondary meaning big days from Dez Bryant and Terrence Williams plus the returning Miles Austin. Dallas will handle business at home. DAL 34-20

Tennessee (3-4) (-3) at St. Louis (3-5) 12:00 pm CBS - This will always bring back memories of one of the best Super Bowls ever. St. Louis will be wearing their old school duds, but it will not help the fact Kellen Clemens is at quarterback especially against the Titans defense. I like Jake Locker to keep Tennessee's head above water in the AFC playoff hunt in a dominating win. TEN 27-9

New Orleans (6-1) (-6) at New York Jets (4-4) 12:00 pm FOX - I am intrigued by this game for a variety of reasons. New Orleans is usually a bit worse on the road than they are when at the dome. It is a Ryan brother matchup which usually leads to a close game between the two men. Geno Smith is like a one of those big bags of Halloween candy, sometimes you get Kit-Kat and sometimes you get Good & Plenty. I am not thinking New York will win but this will be the best game of the early slate which is not saying much at all. I like New Orleans to get a last-second touchdown to win this one. NO 28-24

San Diego (4-3) (-1) at Washington (2-5) 12:00 pm CBS - Expect a bunch of scoring in this one. Washington is still struggling in the secondary while San Diego does not play much defense either plus they could be slightly lethargic to begin this one coming off a bye. I am going to take Washington in this one. I feel like a West Coast team heading East after a bye worries me a bit and Robert Griffin III and company have a big game. WASH 38-34

Atlanta (2-5) at Carolina (4-3) (-7.5) 12:00 pm FOX - Atlanta established themselves as a complete mess against Arizona last week. Now, Matt Ryan and banged-up Falcons come in Charlotte to play the suddenly hot Carolina Panthers. Ryan struggled with Arizona's secondary and Carolina is not at Arizona's level, but their pass rush could get to the Boston College product pretty easily on Sunday. Cam Newton also should be able to take care of business against a struggling Atlanta defense. If Carolina is a real deal, they win and cover this game. I believe they are real. CAR 28-17

Philadelphia (3-5) at Oakland (3-4) (-3) 3:05 pm FOX - Nick Foles gets the start this Sunday for the Eagles as they seem to be a revolving door a bit. They did not have an offensive touchdown in the last two games against Dallas and New York. They need to start off strong early to gain some confidence again in their offense. Oakland could be 4-4 which is something we never saw coming and they play well at home. Terrelle Pryor is not getting enough credit for the job he is doing this year. I would argue he is a borderline Pro Bowler at this time of year and I think he has a big day against this weak Eagles defense. OAK 30-21

Tampa Bay (0-7) at Seattle (7-1) (-17) 3:05 pm FOX - I really do not need a ton of time to write a bunch of things about these two teams because we all know the outcome of this one. Things are going from bad to worse with Tampa and Seattle will find some offense this week. Also nice perk for Seattle's social media department getting Tori Black to tweet at you, some guys have all the luck.  SEA 31-3

Baltimore (3-4) (-3) at Cleveland (3-5) 3:25 pm CBS - Cleveland has not beat Baltimore since 2007-2008 season when they swept the Ravens. Cleveland looked pretty solid with Jason Campbell underneath the center and think they might be okay in the next couple of weeks. Baltimore still leaves me with an uneasy feeling and Joe Flacco could really struggle with Joe Haden taking away half of the field. Give me the Nolan Murphy's in this one. CLEV 20-17

Pittsburgh (2-5) at New England (6-2) (-7) 3:25 pm CBS - This is a do or die game for Pittsburgh. They lose this one and it likely means they are not going to be in the playoff hunt at all. Currently, their head is barely above water yet a road win against New England would do wonderful things for them. New England seemed to regain their footing after getting molly-whopped at home by Miami in the first half. Can the Patriots cover again? I think they do. Pittsburgh is not a good team and we finally need to realize this one like we did with Atlanta last week. NE 34-24

Indianapolis (5-2) (-2.5) at Houston (2-5) 7:30 pm NBC - Tough Sunday night game, but I will start watch primarily to see how Case Keenum does against another tough defense. And to see if Gary Kubiak has to suit up at running back as Houston is battling injuries with Arian Foster and Ben Tate.  Indianapolis is coming off a bye wee meaning they should not really have a hangover from their win against Denver two weeks ago. I will take the Colts because I cannot trust Houston at all. If Keenum is the real deal, who knows, but I cannot get behind him. IND 28-16

Chicago (4-3) at Green Bay (5-2) (-11) 7:30 ESPN - I will be doing the Packer preview and playlist on Monday night. Basically, this means the Liquor Cabinet will be on Monday instead of Tuesday then the Packer Classroom will be there Tuesday.

Charlie.
